Analysis

The survey results indicate that students hold a highly positive attitude (5.97/7) and strong purchase intention (5.95/7) toward gameday apparel made from U.S.-grown cotton, suggesting strong market potential. Social influence also plays a role, with subjective norm scoring high (5.9), though perceived behavioral control was lower (3.89), reflecting concerns over accessibility and affordability. Demographically, the majority of respondents were female, averaging 30.6 years old, and highly educated, but most reported very low incomes, highlighting the importance of price sensitivity. These findings suggest that the cotton capsule brand should launch in late summer, aligning with back-to-campus and football season shopping spikes, and offer affordable, stylish basics such as cotton tees, tanks, and lightweight jackets, with a focus on women’s fits. Marketing should emphasize sustainability and leverage social proof through campus ambassadors and gameday visibility to appeal to this consumer base.

Consumer Story

For this project, our group conducted a Qualtrics survey of 494 U.S. consumers who purchase children’s wear for themselves or their families. The survey was distributed via convenience sampling through social media and Amazon Mechanical Turk between September 27–28, 2025. It examined demographics, sustainability perceptions, subjective norms, behavioral control, and purchase intentions. Our findings revealed that consumers hold a strong preference for sustainable fabrics in children’s wear, with cotton viewed as both durable and safe for kids. Peer and family influence played a significant role in shaping purchase decisions, while affordability emerged as a key barrier, particularly among younger parents. Additionally, respondents reported higher shopping activity around seasonal spikes such as back-to-school and holiday periods. These results highlight the importance of positioning a U.S.-grown cotton capsule as an affordable, sustainable, and family-friendly option timed around major shopping seasons.
